A HAPPY NEW YEAR - What to expect from Local Connections in 2017

A HAPPY NEW YEAR - What to expect from Local Connections in 2017

While we sit here at the beginning of another year, we again find ourselves looking ahead to the future. One, for us, that was planned many months ago, back in June 2016 to be exact. Anyways, we're excited with this year's program, and thought we might indulge ourselves a little by sharing what we have in store for you. Happy 2017!

THE CRAFT BEER & LOCAL FOOD CELEBRATION

JANUARY 12, 2017

It's an annual tradition for us to host this, and it's also our signature event. The Fourth Annual Craft Beer & Local Food Celebration is all about good food and drink, good people, and good times. This year we are making a small change to the event by pairing restaurants with breweries, each duo tasked with creating a special pairing for our event-goers. Aside from that it's business as usual, which means an entire evening of awesomeness for all ticket holders.

Tickets cost $85 (super early birds sold out in June).

THE 2017 CURATED GUIDE

FEBRUARY 2017

At the beginning of February we will begin testing the all-new, app-like version of The Curated Guide website. It's been in the works since last June, and our plan is to complete testing in February and launch the official site at the beginning of March.

Following the release of the new website, we will then release the printed version of The Curated Guide in mid-April. Lots of big changes coming to the print version, all of which you will get to see this spring.

NOVA SCOTIA'S 25 BEST LOCAL EATERIES

MARCH 2017

2017 marks our third year producing Nova Scotia's 25 Best Local Eateries, and this year an expanded, hand-selected group of judges get weigh in on who earns their spot on this year's list. Along with the top 25 will be a runners-up list that could itself make a 25 best list of its own. There are simply that many great places to eat in Nova Scotia.

OUR 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

APRIL 2017

With the release of our April issue, Issue #23, we'll have officially hit the five year mark. To celebrate this, we will be shifting our entire editorial focus to the one thing that's brought us continued success, and that's the local food and drink scene. So starting with the April issue, you can expect to see even more stories, images, and content celebrating this provinces culinary successes.

As far as an anniversary party goes, we still haven't decided if we'll do anything to celebrate this milestone or not. Let's say it's 50/50 right now.

FULL HOUSE CRAFT BEER FEST

MAY 12 + 13, 2017

The month of May brings an event we are proud to produce and host on behalf of the Craft Brewers Association of Nova Scotia. It's back for a third year, this time at the Multipurpose Room of The Halifax Forum. Don't forget to get tickets to this event, which sells out annually.

Tickets cost between $30 and $35, depending when you buy them.

EAST COAST CIDER FESTIVAL

MAY 27, 2017

A new event for us and one we are excited to be producing and hosting is the East Coast Cider Festival. Same venue as the Full House (Multipurpose Room), but a very different event, at least from a culinary perspective.

Tickets cost between $25 and $33, depending when you buy them.

EXPLORING NOVA SCOTIA

JUNE 2017

With our two biggest events in the books, June is when we'll pack our bags and begin to travel throughout the province. It's an important time for us, for it's during the summer months that we decide what we'll be doing in the upcoming year. Big meetings, big decisions. It's also a great time for us to relax a little and connect with the people we feature in the magazine, and maybe discover some new things as well.

THE CASK BEER THROWDOWN

SEPTEMBER 30, 2017

After successfully rebranding and reformatting this event last year, The Cask Beer Throwdown is here to stay and will be returning to the Olympic Community Centre this fall.

Tickets will cost between $30 and $35, depending when you buy them.

THE 12 BEER OF CHRISTMAS

DECEMBER 2017

What has become the truest of true holiday traditions at Local Connections, the 12 Beers of Christmas will be entering it's eighth year, and while it will remain a private party, we will have some cool ways you'll be able get yourself into some of the action. Stay tuned!
